The heart of West End is set to become even more vibrant with the advent of The Glass Factory, a new residential and mixed-use development located moments away from Boundary Street. Designed by award winning ROTHELOWMAN WHITE Architects, the five storey development comprises 47 apartments that draw inspiration from West End’s traditional building styles.

Utilising materials including off-form concrete, profiled metal cladding, perforated aluminium sliding screens, face-brick and rendered masonry, The Glass Factory residences reference the site’s industrial past while creating cutting-edge, contemporary design that’s in harmony with its surrounds. Formerly a glass and aluminium fabrication factory, the development is a significant urban renewal project of a genuine former-industrial site, and a catalyst for strong, design-driven outcomes in the area.

Comprising 27 one bedroom, 18 two bedroom and two three bedroom residences, many enjoying sweeping views of the city and Mount Cootha, the site is complemented by ground floor retail spaces which, whether as a café, grocer of boutique retail, will ensure street-level activation and maintain West End’s lively neighbourhood feel.

An initiative of award winning Queensland based development company Turrisi Properties, The Glass Factory “captures the essence of West End” says Turrisi Properties Development Manager, Ben Jobber. “Guided by the area’s diverse past, located near the popular Boundary Street strip, The Glass Factory will create residences that feel right in their environment, both inside and out”.

Jeff Brown, Principal, ROTHELOWMAN WHITE says the building’s design reflects the eclectic nature of West End’s traditional building forms, while providing a contemporary interpretation of its varied styles. “The Glass Factory’s architectural expression is a singular, cohesive and respectful addition to what is a highly desired Brisbane location”. Construction on The Glass Factory is set to commence in early 2014, with estimated completion in early 2015.
