Brisbane development the Botanica Residences has achieved the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s highest sustainability credentials, a six-leaf rating in the UDIA’s Enviro Certification Program.
Designed by architects ROTHELOWMAN WHITE and developed by ARIA, the South Brisbane development is the largest of its kind certified under the UDIA sustainability rating system.
The 180-apartment landmark residential tower is set to commence early 2014, after selling out within two weeks of its official launch.The development includes features in all six sustainability categories, including ecosystems, waste, energy, materials, water and community.
In addition to the vertical gardens facing Edmondstone Street, an extensive solar panel array ascends the building on the northern and western facades, in turn generating significant energy to offset the building’s common power usage.
The development also offers a ‘Smart Monitoring System’ allowing residents to track their water and energy use.
“As power bills go up and people become more aware of environmental concerns, buyers have become increasingly interested in apartments and workplaces that offer the edge in sustainability, as seen in the demand for Botanica’s residences,” says ROTHELOWMAN WHITE’s Simon White. “Botanica and its green wall will be an authentic residential landmark for the South Brisbane.”
The project blends weathered timber with extensive glass elements. The building is crowned with a recreation terrace featuring 360 degree views, extensive landscaping and multiple entertainment and recreation options
The rooftop is designed to maximise environmental benefit, through greater shade and ventilation, and promote community interaction, with a barbecue and entertaining areas.
The interiors feature 2.7m high plasterboard ceilings which deliver an abundance of natural light and volume into the space,
“When we found out about the UDIA’s Enviro Certification Program, we jumped at the chance to make Botanica more environmentally friendly. It was apparent that with some hard work and smart design changes, we could achieve all 6 levels of certification. We are continually working to further separate our developments from the market, and achieving the UDIA Six Leaf Enviro Certification was a very easy decision for us to make,” said Michael Hurley, ARIA’s Residential Division.
Botanica is at the corner of Edmondstone and Boundary streets, in the heart of former commercial area which is rapidly transforming into a vibrant residential neighbourhood, just 2km from the CBD.
