Hayball team member Jack Davies has taken out top place in the Lodge on the Lake Design Ideas Competition.
Jack Davies’ design was chosen out of 242 entries in the competition, which was a combined initiative by Centenary of Canberra, Gallery of Australian Design and University of Canberra. The prize of $80 000 was awarded to Jack and his team members at a ceremony at the gallery on Thursday.
The design, which features timber, concrete and recycled materials, takes a casual approach while still considering the private and public aspects of prime ministerial life. Jury chairman, Lyndon Anderson said the design, “responsibly owns the landscape, is beautifully sited and celebrates the lake edge location.”
The design took three months to finalise, with the team working after hours, and across three countries. Although the project will not be built Jack said it was a pleasure to be awarded top prize.
