Multi-national contracting organisation, Laing O’Rourke (LOR), will join prefabAUS for breakfast in Sydney this Friday – part of prefabAUS’s breakfast series, this event will see LOR and other industry experts challenge the status quo.
Evaluating traditional perceptions and reviewing how prefabricated technology can work collectively to transform our built environment, University of Newcastle Professor of Construction Management, Peter Davis and Independent Industry Advisor, David Chandler OAM will turn the construction industry on its head.
Presenting alongside Peter and David, PrefabAUS can now confirm Structural Engineering Leader in the Engineering Excellence Group of Laing O’Rourke (LOR), Angus McFarlane, who will offer an exclusive insight into LOR’s use of off-site construction.
Chairman of the Modular Construction Code Board, Angus specialises in the design of high-rise buildings. With a portfolio of projects that features Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest tower, Emirates Towers, and the Burj Al Arab, Dubai, UAE, attendees will benefit from Angus’s comprehensive experience in high-strength concrete, steelwork, seismic design, structural dynamics and soil-structure interaction.
Angus will discuss two interdependent themes: the application of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) in the construction industry and the improvement of a building project’s contribution to society as a whole.
DfMA allows for greater flexibility in design solutions and improvements in construction methodology. Angus will explain how, by challenging the status quo and incorporating elements neglected in the traditional approach, DfMA reduces labour, reduces timescale, reduces cost, improves quality and improves environmental performance.
Join Angus, David and Peter at the PrefabAUS ‘Challenging the status quo’ breakfast in Sydney on November 14th. Tickets can be purchased here or with more information available at www.prefabaus.org.au.
