Internationally prominent artist Polly Borland has unveiled Monster, a bold new body of work, at Murray White Room.
Borland, fresh from her first solo show in Los Angeles where she now lives and works, is showing nine new photographic images and nine reversible tapestries.
The new photographs evince a restricted palette of red and flesh tones, and hint at dark emotional states.
“There’s something quite foreboding about the new images, and there’s always a slightly on-the-edge connotation to what’s happening in them,” Borland says.
Borland emerged from a background in commercial, editorial and fashion photography and is well known for her images of Nick Cave, Cate Blanchett and Queen Elizabeth II. Borland has largely given up commercial work to pursue her artistic career, though she recently agreed to create a series of portrait images of Nick Cave and wife Susie Bick for British Vogue.
